Employment in Bury St Edmunds is dominated by a number of key sectors these include public administration, education and health, retail/wholesale and financial services. Bury St Edmunds is a historic market town located in the heart of Suffolk and houses a population of around 36,000. Few areas in England can match the beauty and history of Bury St Edmunds and the town is well known for its natural, historic and architectural attractions. The town is probably most famous for its ruined abbey which stands near the centre of the town and was built as a shrine to Saint Edmond, Saxon King of the East Angles.

Bury St Edmunds offers excellent leisure and shopping facilities including a rare and attractive mix of family-run businesses, high street names and boutiques.  The town also holds market days on Wednesdays and Saturdays when the centre becomes a lively paradise for bargain hunters.

The area boasts a wealth of pubs, including ‘The Nutshell’ which is reputed to be the smallest pub in Britain. The area also has many other impressive restaurants, bistros, bars and cafes with a place to suite everyone’s style and taste buds.

Although the town has a historic past it does not live in the times of yore. There are a number of sport centres in and around the area which have modern facilities for everyone to enjoy. There are also around 600 acres of beautiful park land and open spaces to enjoy along with country parks and idyllic gardens.

Bury St Edmunds is well-served by the A14 and it has the only railway station in the Borough which links it with Ipswich to the east and Cambridge and Peterborough to the west.
