Adjoining London to the south west and East Anglia to the north, Essex is of immense strategic importance. In the south it is one of the country’s key growth areas in the Thames Gateway. As Colchester is based only a short distance away from the Country’s Capital, it has greatly benefited from the growing trend of banking and financial companies locating their operations to more affordable areas and as a result, the financial sector in Colchester is expected to grow by a further 25% over the next 10 years.
Colchester is a unique and thriving town and is considered to be the most sophisticated, lively and striking towns in Essex.
Chelmsford has become a thriving business location and has over 5,500 businesses in a variety of sectors based in the borough. It is a largely commercial town which employs around 80,000 people and holds a low unemployment rate. The town has a continuing importance as an employment centre demonstrated by the fact that the number of “in” commuters almost exactly balances the number of workers commuting to London from Chelmsford.
Chelmsford’s central Essex location and good transport links make the town readily accessible. There are excellent road communication - with the M25 only 15 minutes drive away - along with easy links to the Channel, Haven Ports and the rest of the UK. There is also a fast and frequent rail service linking Chelmsford with the City of London and also links the rest of the East of England.
