Job Description
Our client, a highly reputable company based in Colchester, is currently seeking to recruit a professional and commercially aware Finance Controller to strengthen their Finance team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a analytically minded individual to work for an award-winning business, who truly value their employees.
The successful candidate will play a key role within the business, responsible for the leadership, development and day-to-day management of the Accounts & Finance department.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
- Helping to shape and deliver finance strategy to improve performance and support long-term goals
- Overseeing accurate financial reporting with clear analysis of performance, systems, and profitability
- Leading, developing, and future-proofing the finance team
- Providing financial insight to guide strategy, challenge decisions, and support planning and targets
- Ensuring strong, compliant financial systems, processes, and controls
- Supporting business growth by working closely with regional leadership teams
- Managing cash flow, credit control, and key financial policies
- Ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements
- Overseeing risk management and insurance
- Leading budgeting, forecasting, and performance tracking
- Preparing statutory accounts and liaise with auditors
- Maintaining relationships with external stakeholders, including clients, advisors, and banks
- Monitoring capital expenditure and support cost/margin analysis
- Manage pension schemes and governance processes
- Acting as Company Secretary and present to Board meetings
Skills & Experience Required:
- Extensive experience as a Financial Controller or similar
- ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified
- Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
- Proven experience of leading, developing and supporting a successful finance team
- Demonstrably methodical and highly organised with a proven ability to meet deadlines
- Strong coordinating skills to ensure structured governance of Finance related matters
- Strong reporting and analytical skills
- Excellent IT skill, including the use of role related software, particularly Sage 200
- Active UK SC Clearance holder or the ability to gain UK SC clearance
Although this role is based primarily in Colchester, the successful candidate must have flexibility to travel to other office locations as and when required.
