Job Description

We are working on behalf of an award-winning global insurance group who are currently recruiting for an Underwriting Support Administrator to join their team in Bury St Edmunds. This role is a great opportunity for a candidate with strong administration skills to provide efficient and effective technical and administrative support to the underwriting teams.

 

The successful candidate will be supported through professional development and will be assisted in studying for professional CII qualifications.

 

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Proven administrative or customer service experience gained within the insurance industry or a similar regulated environment
  • Minimum of 5 GCSE passes at grades A–C, including English and Maths (or equivalent)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Professional and articulate
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong IT skills, including the use of Microsoft packages
  • Organisational and planning skills, with the ability to prioritise workloads
  • A genuine passion for building a career within the insurance industry, including a desire towards studying professional qualifications

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing efficient support to a busy underwriting team, assisting with daily business needs to ensure the effective and smooth running of the department, whilst managing general administrative activities.

 

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Accurately input and maintain underwriting data to enable informed decision-making
  • Provide both effective administrative and technical assistance to underwriters within the Existing
  • Business portfolio
  • Manage inbound calls from brokers and clients, resolving queries where possible or routing them to the appropriate contact
  • Assist with the renewal cycle by proactively liaising with brokers and clients to help maximise retention
  • Prepare, compile, and distribute documentation, including printed materials, emails, and outbound correspondence
  • Gather required information from brokers to support quotations, policy amendments, and renewals
  • Draft and update documentation as needed, ensuring a high standard of accuracy and consistency
  • Continuously develop technical knowledge to support progression into more complex underwriting tasks
